Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Tuesday recorded seven new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s tally to 63, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.

In a daily update, the Ministry said all the seven new infections were recorded in a quarantine centre in Beitbridge where returnees from South Africa are being held.

“Seven new cases tested positive for Covid-19 today. These are returnees from South Africa who are guaranteed in Beitbridge.

“To date, the total number of confirmed cases is 63, recovered 25, active cases 34 and 4 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020,” it said.

The positive results were recorded out of 693 RDT screening tests and 185 PCR diagnostic tests done.

“The cumulative number of tests done to date is 38 352 (22 402 RDT and 15 950 PCR,” the Ministry said.

Zimbabwe is currently in level 2 national lockdown for an indefinite period to slow the spread of Covid-19.

The majority of the country’s Covid-19 cases are from nationals returning home from other countries. There has been very few locally transmitted cases.
