Harare,(New Ziana) – Three more people who had been infected by Covid-19 have fully recovered, Zimbabwe’s health ministry has said.
The recoveries bring to five the total number of people who have healed since the first case was recorded late last month.
In its Covid-19 daily update released midnight Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the recovered were all members of the same family from Ruwa, in Mashonaland East province.
They were among the first group of 10 people in the country to be affected by the virus.
“Therefore to date, Zimbabwe has 31 confirmed cases, including five recoveries and four deaths,” the ministry said.
The recovered had been infected after getting into contact with a family member, who was the third person to be infected by Covid-19 in the country after having returned from Dubai.
In terms of the three new cases recorded on Saturday, the health ministry said two of the infected, now known as Patients 29 and 30, were a 46 year old female and 66 year old male, who had gotten into contact with the late Patient 27, an 82-year old woman from Mhondoro.
The health ministry is yet to ascertain how the old lady, who died on April 21, was infected as she had no history of recent travel or contact with a known Covid-19 patient.
The deceased had from the time she was supposedly infected contact with 69 people, who have since had their samples taken for testing, the health ministry said.
Patient 31, who was also recorded on Saturday, is a 31 year old male from Harare who returned from the United Kingdom on April 13.
Zimbabwe is currently in its final week of a national lockdown, that ends on May 3, that is aimed at curtailing spread of the virus, which has killed nearly 194 000 people globally as at April 26, and infecting nearing three million others.
