Today, Zimbabwe joins the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day, a global event that raises awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrates solidarity in fighting against the pandemic.
The National AIDS Council (NAC) is leading the commemorations in Zimbabwe being hosted at John Cowie Primary School, Rusape.
The commemorations mark the beginning of the 2024-2025 AIDS Campaign running under the theme, ‘Take the right path: My Health, My Rights, Our Responsibility.
The campaign is running with a focus on addressing the rights of all to access health care.
This year’s commemorations kicked off with a 21km, 10km and 5km marathon that raises awareness, promotes HIV testing, and encourages people to take action in the national response to HIV and AIDS.
Zimbabwe has made significant progress in fighting against HIV/AIDS, but there is still much work to be done. The country aims to end AIDS by 2030, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
