Mutare (New Ziana) – A local energy company, Zuva Petroleum, has donated classroom furniture to several schools that were ravaged by last year’s tropical Cyclone Idai.

The cyclone ravaged south eastern parts of Manicaland province, killing scores of people, and destroying property and infrastructure such as bridges.

Zuva’s donation, worth $100 000, was made to five schools, namely Hotsprings, Tonhorai, Ndima, Charleswood and Gwindingwe primary schools.

Handing over the donation, Zuva chief operations officer Zwelithini Mulochwa said the classroom furniture was given in recognition of the power of education, and to restore hope in the face of adversity.

“Zuva Petroleum found it prudent to play its part in the communities affected by the disaster, targeting mainly schools,” he said.

He added that good education fostered good citizens, and opened and ignited people’s imaginations and creativity.

“Education is a dream that you hold in your hand, dreams that you can pursue, dreams that can make you more successful, open minded and a better person, so today we are not only donating furniture, we are also donating dreams,” Mulochwa said.

Minister of State for Manicaland Province, Ellen Gwaradzimba, commended the company for coming to the assistance of the schools, and acknowledged its earlier help as well.

“We want to profusely extend our sincere gratitude to Zuva Petroleum for bringing in this help. A number of schools were affected by Cyclone Idai but a few were selected to receive these donations,” she said.
