Mutare (Pungwe News-New Ziana) -The Mutare magistrates court on Tuesday fined two Mozambican nationals ZWL$60 each for not having proper travelling documents.
Magistrate Notebulgar Muchineripi ordered Solo Gondatsoka (29) and Promise Tsoqus (19), who were arrested while selling second hand clothes in the eastern body city, to pay the fine or risk being imprisoned for three days.
The duo pleaded guilty for contravening section 29(1) of Immigration Act which prohibits entering the country without possession of proper documentation.
Asked why they committed the offence, the pair pleaded for leniency saying they were trying to eke a living through honest means.
However, the magistrate said they should apply for travelling documents before they visit the country.
Prosecutor Nyasha Mukonyora told the court that Gondatsoka and Tsoqus entered the country illegally on Monday and started selling their merchandise in the Central Business District (CBD).
Police officers who were conducting a patrol noticed the pair and approached them. The cops requested for travelling documents and the
two failed to produce their passports leading to their arrest.
Muchineripi ordered the two to be kept at the Remand Prison since they were not permanent residents of the country.
