No house evictions – Mimosa Mine

Zvishavane (The Times-New Ziana) Zvishavane-based platinum mining company, Mimosa has dismissed rumours circulating that it had evicted former workers from company houses they still occupied.

Company general manager Alex Mushonhiwa told the media recently that Mimosa had respect for its employees, former or current, and could not treat them in an uncivil manner.

“As Mimosa, we have respect for our employees even after life at the mine, so what we did is, we offered our employees title deeds to own those houses,” said Mushonhiwa.

“We do not want to see a situation whereby our employees go back to the rural areas to start all over again.”

Mushonhiwa said Mimosa will not follow in the footsteps of other mines which sold off houses their retiring employees occupied.

One such mine is King Mashava where the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on mines had to be called in a couple of months ago to mediate in a housing dispute between the mine and former employees.
