Harare(New Ziana)- Police said on Sunday two more people had died in a road accident in which a bus collided with a heavy duty truck along Harare-Mutare highway, bringing the death toll to 16.
Fourteen people died on the spot in the accident on Saturday evening near Odzi.
But police spokesman assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said two other victims, among the injured, died on admission to hospital in Mutare.
“The death toll is now 16 following the death of another two people on admission at Mutare General Hospital,” he said.
Nyathi said the accident happened after the bus, belonging to General Bande Bus Company, tried to overtake on a prohibited stretch of the road, resulting in a side swipe.
He said the bus driver was also speeding, a common cause of accidents in the country.
