Two die in Kwekwe accident

KweKwe, (New Ziana) – Two people died on the spot when a truck they were travelling in overturned along the Kwekwe- Silobela road on Tuesday, police said.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said the driver, Basil Nyengedza (34) and another passenger Tawanda Zvenhamo (36) died on the spot, while Brighton Moyo (34) and Jeff Mboveni (32) were ferried to Kwekwe General Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

The accident occurred at the 70 km peg, near Horizon Business Center, Silobela on Defence Forces Day.

The two injured are now in a stable condition, Goko said.

All the four are from B21 Bickford Road, Gweru.

“I can confirm that there was an accident that occurred near Silobela Horizon shopping center where two lives were lost, while the other two who sustained severe injuries were ferried to Kwekwe Hospital,” he said.

Goko said the accident occurred due to speeding.

“The driver failed to negotiate the curve due to speeding and lost control of the vehicle,” he said.

“The vehicle veered off the road, overturned several times and landed on its left side.”

Goko appealed to motorists to drive safely to avoid accidents.
