Enraged Gweru man axes wife to death, hangs self over ‘love’ messages

GWERU- In a fit of rage, a 30 year old Gweru man is alleged to have axed his wife to death and committed suicide in a case of suspected infidelity.

The enraged Pride Hove, of Hertfordshire Phase 1, is alleged to have struck his wife Patience Matura on the neck with an axe after going through her phone and allegedly finding suspicious messages.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said on August 10, at around 2AM, Hove and his wife had a dispute after he saw text messages in her mobile phone and suspected that she was having an affair.

“An informant who is the landlord and uncle to Hove who was in Masvingo called a neighbor and asked him to go and check on his residence since he heard that the two were having a domestic dispute.

“The neighbor went to Hove’s house and tried to solve the dispute and returned to his house around 4AM after calming the couple,” he said.

Hove’s uncle arrived from Masvingo on the same day at around 2PM and headed straight to his house in Hertfordshire Phase 1.

“On arrival, he saw Hove hanging from the roof truss through the window of the dining room and immediately went to Gweru Central Police Station to make a report,” said Insp. Goko.

Police attended the scene and found the man hanging from the roof truss with a blue rope around his neck, while his wife’s body was on the floor in a pool of blood.

“The police went to one of the bedrooms and found the woman’s body on the floor in a pool of blood with an axe on her neck.

“It is suspected that Hove struck his wife with an axe once on his neck before hanging himself on the roof truss.”

The two bodies were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
Insp. Goko said investigations are still in progress.
