Shurugwi man kills son for revealing adulterous affair to mom

Shurugwi (New Ziana) –A 40 year old man from Shurugwi, about 35 kilometres north of Gweru in the Midlands province allegedly fatally assaulted his 13-year-old son with a rod for spilling the beans to his wife that he was having an affair with another woman.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident which he said occurred at Plot 27 Edward Farm in Shurugwi.

Insp Goko said Chenjerai Mandiziva allegedly assaulted his son Takunda John Murahwa with a rod after he told his stepmother Bertha Mapiye (32) that he had seen him with a girlfriend.

“Mandiziva then took a switch and assaulted Takunda all over the body and he died on the spot,” said Insp. Goko.

Mandiziva fled from the scene but was later arrested.

A report was made to the police and the body was ferried to Shurugwi District Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old student at Nkululeko High School in Lower Gweru was electrocuted after he slipped and held an electrical conductor while doing laundry at the boys’ hostels.

Insp Goko confirmed the incident saying the now deceased Collen Chinyemba was electrocuted while washing his blankets.

Chinyemba was washing his blankets standing inside a bathtub at the boys’ hostel when he allegedly slipped and in trying to balance himself, he held onto a metal electrical conductor and in the process, he was electrocuted.

“Other students went and informed their teacher Chrispen Zembe who rushed Chinyemba to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Insp. Goko said.

A report was made at ZRP Gweru Rural Police Station and the scene was attended by the police and Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company officials.
