Harare(New Ziana)-Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Friday denied bail to suspended Zimbabwe Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya who was arrested last month while allegedly attempting to smuggle out of the country.
Rushwaya’s alleged accomplices- former state security agents Stephen Tserayi and Raphios Mufandauya as well as suspended ZMF deputy president Gift Karanda were also denied bail.
The court however granted Pakistani businessman Ali Mohamad ZWL$100 000 bail, who is facing the same smuggling allegations arguing the state case against him was weak.
Rushwaya was arrested two weeks ago at the Robert Mugabe International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Dubai with 6 kg of gold in her hand luggage.
After her arrest, Rushwaya implicated Mohammed, who she said was the owner of the gold.
Tserayi, Mufandauya and Karanda were arrested for their roles in trying to assist Rushwaya to smuggle the gold.
Rushwaya has denied attempting to smuggle the gold, saying she picked up the wrong bag when she left home for the airport.
