Harare (New Ziana)-Freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono was on Thursday denied bail by a Harare magistrates court on charges of communicating falsehoods.
Chin’ono allegedly published a story on social media alleging that a police officer had fatally assaulted a child which was strapped to its mother’s back.
It later turned out that the policeman had not struck the baby as alleged and that the baby was alive contrary to his claims.
MDC Alliance vice president Job Sikhala and party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere are also in remand prison for the same charges.
Denying Chin’ono bail, Magistrate Lazini Nucbe said there was overwhelming evidence against him on a charge of communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the state.
The court also noted that Chin’ono allegedly committed the latest offence whilst out on bail for other offences.
