Zhombe, (New Ziana) – Police in Zhombe said on Tuesday they had launched a manhunt for three brothers suspected of fatally assaulting a man and his son over stolen donkeys.

The trio allegedly used knobkerries to assault Helken Ncube and his son Khulekani whom they suspected of stealing their donkeys.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the three brothers – Lee, Mpilo and Moffat Moyo – were on the run.

He said the assailants allegedly beat up the father and son to death at Bhaparara Business Centre after accusing them of stealing their donkeys in December last year.

“A misunderstanding arose between them (the brothers and father and son), resulting in the suspects assaulting the deceased with knobkerries all over their bodies,” Insp. Mahoko said.

“The three suspects went away leaving the now deceased lying on the ground,” he said.

The matter was reported to the police, who attended the scene and Helken and Khulekani Ncube were later taken to Kwekwe General Hospital but died on admission.

“Police are appealing to members of the public who might have information that can help locating the three assailants to inform any nearest police station, use our police hotlines/WhatsApp lines and suggestion boxes doted across the country,” Insp Mahoko said.
