Harare, (New Ziana) – ZB Financial Holdings Limited group chief executive Ron Mutandagayi has resigned from the helm of the financial institution, New Ziana established on Tuesday.

Mutandagayi, who took over as the boss in 2013, came under the spotlight in early March when a video of him allegedly assaulting his estranged wife went viral on social media leading to his troubles at work.

As a result he took absence of leave from work as the ZB Financial Holdings board said it would take “appropriate action on the matter.”

New Ziana established that Mutandagayi had informed top officials at the institution of his decision to stand down.

Contacted for comment, the former ZB Financial Holdings boss, chuckled and said “I cannot comment (on the matter).”

The resignation was linked to the domestic issue, sources said.

When the video surfaced, Mutandagayi admitted that it was him in the footage, but said “the event cannot be attributed to me alone.”

“The unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident occurred on 2 January 2021 after three consecutive days of severe assault and harassment on my person,” he said in a statement.

“Further it is regrettable that the video footage only shows a certain portion of the incident obviously meant to sell a certain narrative.”

The footage was reportedly captured by his teenage daughter.

The matter is still before the courts.
