Zim records 3110 new Covid-19 cases, 58 deaths
Harare (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe recorded 3 110 new Covid-19 cases and 58 deaths on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
The latest deaths brings to 300 the number of people who have succumbed to the virus in the past five days.
Of the 58 deaths, Bulawayo recorded the majority with 20 people succumbing to Covid-19 in the province, followed by Midlands province which recorded nine deaths.
“As of 13 July 2021, there were 883 hospitalised cases: New Admissions 114, Asymptomatic 261, mild to moderate 516, severe 66 and 40 in Intensive Care Units. Inyathi Hospital, Masvingo, Matebeleland North and Midlands Provinces did not report today,” said the Ministry in its daily update.
The majority of the new infections were from Mashonaland West province (437) followed by Harare with 422 while Bulawayo province recorded 358 cases.
As of 14 July 2021, Zimbabwe had recorded 76 381 cases, 49 053 recoveries and 2 332 deaths since March 2020 when the first infection was recorded.
To curb more infections and deaths, Zimbabwe commenced its Covid-19 vaccination exercise early this year.
On Wednesday, 33 090 people received their first vaccine dose, bringing the total to 988 746 while 5 011 received their second dose, pushing the cumulative total to 624 894.
