Gweru (New Ziana)-Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairperson Daniel Mackenzie Ncube has slammed the imposition of candidates in the on-going restructuring exercise, describing the move as “retrogressive”.

Ncube acknowledged that there have been a number of problems in the district elections which started last week and are expected to be concluded this weekend.

“There have been a number of problems, of course we cannot hide from that. Imposition of candidates is one of them, its not allowed, actually its retrogressive.

“You can not impose a candidate and hope that he will command respect in organizing his peers, it doesn’t work or to move candidates from one district to the other for example from Kwekwe Central to Mbizo to vote there or vice versa, we frown upon that. If something like that is brought to our attention, we will nullify those elections and start all over again.

“We want leaders to come from the people, that is our aim, that is the position which has been clearly enunciated and reiterated many times by the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa).”

He said they have been given until next Saturday to ensure that all the 565 districts have been structured or restructured and if there are new ones they also be put in place.

“It’s a mammoth task. It can not be smooth all the time, but we have spread out throughout the province to ensure that by this weekend, 95 percent of the districts have been attended to,” he said.
