Ascot Stadium to host PSL matches

Gweru (New Ziana) –Gweru’s ceremonial home of football Ascot Stadium has been given the nod to host Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches which kick off this weekend.
The PSL returns after a two year absence due to Covid-19.
Ascot is one of only eight stadiums countrywide that have been given the green-light to host matches of the local premiership.
Others given a green-light to host matches include Gibbo in Triangle, Baobab in Ngezi, Nyamhunga in Kariba, Sakubva in Mutare, Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, Babourfields and Luveve Stadiums in Bulawayo and the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
Ascot Stadium had failed to make the grade in 2019, with teams from Gweru including Chapungu and TelOne having to adopt stadiums in Zvishavane and Bulawayo as their home grounds.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Football Association communications and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela said most stadiums in the country were in a derelict state.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League gets underway this with exciting line up of fixtures.
Defending champions FC Platinum begin their title defence at home at Mandava Stadium against newcomers Tenax on Saturday.
Gweru based Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services side Whawha travel to Mutare for a date with Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium while several other matches will be played across the weekend.
