Harare (New Ziana) – At least 5 841 motorists have been arrested to date countrywide in an ongoing blitz against unregistered motor vehicles, police said on Wednesday.
The national operation to flush out unregistered vehicles on the roads is aimed at curbing criminal activities using unlicensed cars.
“On 18/01/2022, 1915 arrests were made under the ongoing operation targeting unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles and non complying Public Service Vehicles.
” Cumulative arrests stand at 5841.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to cooperate with the police officers carrying out the current operation against unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles and non complying Public Service Vehicles,” said police in a statement.
The operation which began on January 15th is being conducted in order to account for criminals who are committing crimes using plateless, unregistered and unlicensed motor vehicles.
Police have since warned that all unregistered vehicles, including those belonging to the Government, would be impounded and cases referred to court for prosecution.
