Acting President Chiwenga to lead wetlands commemorations

Masvingo (New Ziana) – Acting President Constantino Chiwenga will lead commemorations of World Wetlands Day in Masvingo on Wednesday, an official has said.

Masvingo provincial information officer, Rodgers Irimayi said the commemorations will be held at Njovo Wetland, Zezai Village, Ward 18 in Masvingo district.

The government has taken a tough stance on the protection of wetlands, including banning human settlement and cultivation of such areas.

In the past, there was rampant cultivation and settlement in such places, leading to disasters like flooding.
