Police arrest four for murder

Gwanda (New- Ziana) – Four people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man on suspicion of stealing three grams of gold from them in Matopo, police said on Wednesday.

The four, Ellias Phiri, Luwine Pasikane, Tafadzwa Bauren and Kudzanai Chinvenda, are accused of gravely assaulting Thembani Moyo with iron bars on suspicion that he had stolen gold belonging to one of them.

Moyo died from injuries sustained later in hospital in Bulawayo.

“On 14/03/22, police in Matopo arrested Ellias Phiri (36), Luwine Pasikwane (33), Tafadzwa Bauren (24) and Kudzanai Chinzvenda (27) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Kapara Mine on 01/03/22,” police said.

“The suspects allegedly assaulted Thembani Moyo (36) all over the body with iron bars, on allegations of theft of three grams of gold from one of the suspects. The victim sustained serious injuries and his condition kept on deteriorating and was referred to Mpilo hospital on 07/03/22 where he died on 12/03/22 while being admitted.”

Murder cases have become prevalent in the country, particularly around informal gold mining areas, with most of these involving love triangles and robbery.
