ZANU-PF wrestles Kwekwe council seat from opposition


Kwekwe – The ruling Zanu PF party made inroads into opposition territory in Saturday ‘s by-elections in Kwekwe by wrestling the Kwekwe Central local authority seat.

The ruling party candidate Edumakomborero Mlambo wrestled the Ward 8 council seat after he polled 704 votes against nearest rival Gwamuri Kudakwashe Milton of Citizens Coalition for Change who polled 592 votes, and Dadurayi Mapfumo of MDC-Alliance.

Mlambo joins another ZANU-PF councillor Maclean Nyakuchera of Ward 6 in the Kwekwe council chambers, dominated by the opposition.

The Ward 8 seat in Amaveni was previously held by former deputy mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa of MDC who died in July 2021.

Kwekwe Municipality had five vacancies three occasioned by recalls and two by deaths.
