Gokwe (New Ziana) – Gokwe has became the first local authority in the Midlands province where the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is installing pre-paid water meters in an exercise which started on Tuesday and will benefit about 5400 housing units.

The water authority started installations in Green Valley suburb after taking delivery of the first 600 pre-paid meters.

ZINWA Gokwe Service Center team leader Philip Gundani said they expect to finish the installation programme by June this year.

“We have started with 600 pre-paid water meters and we are expecting more as we anticipate to finish the installation of pre-paid meters in Green Valley on Tuesday next week,” he said.

Gundani added that they are going to cover 12 suburbs in Gokwe which have about 5 400 housing units.

“We are expecting to finish the installations in May or June this year,” said Gundani.

A Gokwe resident, Miriam Bizeki said: “We hope and trust that we will not have any water challenges as residents will use water sparingly. We are grateful to ZINWA for this project.”
