Cyanide Gas Kills Artisanal Miner
Mutasa (New Ziana)- A 37-year-old female artisanal miner suffocated to death after she inhaled cyanide chemical which she kept in her house.
Manicaland province police spokesperson, Inspector Muzondo identified the deceased as Ashley Machaka of Mugute Village under Chief Mutasa.
The deceased who is into artisanal mining is suspected to have suffocated to death after inhaling cyanide she kept in her house. She used the chemicals for gold processing, said the police spokesperson.
Insp Muzondo said Machaka`s body was found by her mother Beula Machaka (60) who had last seen her in the morning at around 9am.
The deceased`s mother discovered that her daughter did not come out of her house the whole day.
She became suspicious and went to investigate at around 23 00hrs.
She forced the door open and found her daughter dead in one of her five roomed house, said Insp Muzondo.
The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for post mortem and a report confirmed that the death was as a result from cyanide suffocation.
As police, we urge members of the public not to keep dangerous chemicals in their houses and they risk inhaling them and suffocate, said the police spokesperson.
