MARONDERA- Zanu PF Women’s League secretary Mabel Chinomona has challenged women to actively participate in politics so that they can have a say in the national discourse.
Speaking at a recent gathering in Marondera, Chinomona, who is also the Senate President, bemoaned the women voter apathy that characterised last month’s by elections.
“Let’s be seen actively participating in the politics of our country. Our voices counts and can go a long way in shaping the current state and future of the nation. We should not be left behind when it comes to benefiting in socio-economic activities.
“As women, we should be organised in everything that we do. I was not amused by women’s voter apathy during the parliament and council by-elections that were held last month. We must participate in every election and elect the leaders whom we want to lead us,” she said.
Senator Chinomona urged the women to register to vote for next year’s harmonised elections.
She also encouraged women to aim at leadership positions and be part of the development of their communities and the nation at large.
Zimbabwe is yet to reach the 50-50 representation ratio in the National House of Assembly and councils as enshrined in the country’s Constitution.
