Eight die in road accidents in Harare and Bulawayo on Tuesday

Harare, April 26, 2022 (New Ziana)-At least eight people died and 14
were injured in two separate accidents in Harare and Bulawayo on Tuesday
morning, the police said.

In Bulawayo, six people died and eleven were injured when an illegal
commuter omnibus went through a red robot and collided with a moving
haulage truck.

In a statement, the police said the unregistered commuter omnibus, which
was carrying 17 occupants, went through a red traffic light at the
intersection of Masiyephambili and Khami Roads at 5 am.

“A non- Zupco Toyota Hiace kombi went through a red robot and rammed
into a moving truck before it was trapped between the horse and trailer
and dragged for about 30 metres,” the police said.

In Harare, two people died on the spot after a Honda Fit vehicle
collided with a train at a railway level crossing along Chiremba Road
in Hillside suburb.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to notify motorists that Chiremba
road is currently blocked at the railway level crossing near OK-Mart in
Harare, following a fatal road accident involving a train and a Honda
Fit vehicle.

“Two people have since died while three others were injured,” it said in
a statement.

The rampant road carnage has become a cause of concern to the
government, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently directing
officials to explore ways of ending it, including having speed limiters
fitted on buses.
