Lower Gweru man killed for demanding his debt

GWERU – A 47-year-old Lower Gweru man died after he was assaulted by a log for demanding his debt.
Last Mpofu of Torvo 2 resettlement died four days after the assault from injuries he sustained from the attack by Emson Ncube (73) from the same area.
When Mpofu visited Ncube at his homestead demanding his debt, a misunderstanding arose between the two and the latter picked up a log and hit Mpofu several times all over the body causing serious injuries.
Acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said the incident occurred on April 23 at around 4pm. Following the assault, Mpofu’s condition deteriorated and two days later, he was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment by a well-wisher.
He was later referred to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he was treated and discharged but died at his home on April 27. Mpofu’s body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post- mortem.
A report was made to the police at ZRP Maboleni who attended the scene.
Ncube is assisting police with investigations, and is expected to appear in court soon on murder charges.
In another incident, police in Lalapanzi are investigating a case of attempted murder which occurred on April 27.
The victim, Justice Bebulo of Village 2B Nkululeko, Gweru and the alleged perpetrator only identified as Simba, were drinking beer at a Mine in Downlands, Lalapanzi.
A misunderstanding arose between the two over beer resulting in Simba stabbing Bebulo with a knife inflicting serious injuries.
A report was made at ZRP Lalapanzi and Bebulo was referred to Mvuma District Hospital where he is admitted. Simba is still at large.
Asst. Insp Mukwende urged members of the public to solve their disputes amicably.
“Use of violence constitutes an offence and leads to unnecessary loss of lives,” she said.
