Harare (New Ziana)-Two suspected poachers were shot dead in Chirundu after an armed contact with a ranger, an official said on Monday.

Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said a rifle and freshly poached ivory were recovered.

“Over the weekend there was an armed contact with suspected poachers in Chirundu and two were shot dead. The rangers managed to recover a rifle, freshly poached ivory and investigations are in progress,” he said.

Farawo issued a chilling warning to would be poachers saying the parks management authority has a shoot to kill policy.

“We are warning would be poachers that the national parks are a no go area for criminal activities. If you are found in a protected area, armed, there is no way we are going to apprehend you; you will be shot on sight. We have a shoot to kill policy,” he said.
