Woman arrested for hubby’s death

Gweru (New Ziana) – A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her abusive husband.

Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the woman, Sophia Nherera has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Her husband, Joseph Hama (36) died after sustaining a deep cut on his shoulder following a misunderstanding with Nherera on 7 August 2022 at around 10pm at Brooklyn Farm Compound, Gweru.

On the fateful day at around 7:30pm, Hama arrived home drunk and had a misunderstanding with his wife.

He is alleged to have started assaulting Nherera all over the body while threatening to kill her.

During the scuffle, it is alleged that Hama fell on a glass television stand and got injured, sustaining a deep cut on his right shoulder.

His wife escaped and sought refuge at a neighbour’s homestead.

Hama followed his wife and he was refrained by their neighbour, Wisdom Nyambira from further assaulting her.

Nyamnbira later found Hama sitting lifeless inside his Honda Fit vehicle at around 10pm.

Police attended the scene and the body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

“The wife has been arrested as a suspect for murder and investigations are going on,” the police spokesperson said.

Insp. Mahoko appealed to the public to resolve their domestic disputes amicably or engage third parties rather than resorting to violence.
