War Vets League gives Zanu PF renewed strength-President Mnangagwa

Harare (New Ziana)–The War Veterans League, a newly created organ of the ruling Zanu PF party brings with it its renowned organisational capabilities which will further entrench the party’s political dominance, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Friday.

President Mnangagwa said this at the inaugural elective conference of the War Veterans League.

He said the creation of the new organ heralded a new dawn for the colossal mass party, Zanu PF, which is gunning for a clean sweep in next year’s general elections.

“Although this strategic League of our party took over 41 years to establish, the role you played before and after independence can never be denied, erased or overlooked. In this regard, the Party will continue to be bolstered, galvanised and indeed renewed by you, our veterans. You are the bedrock of our struggle and founders of modern-day Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We liberated the country through our renowned and celebrated organisational ability. We brought independence by mobilising the masses to oppose and resist all the evil oppressive schemes of our colonisers. We are tried and tested cadres whose patriotism and loyalty to our revolutionary cause remains unflinching.

“Now that the 2023 Harmonised General Elections are approaching, we must complement party efforts through sound ideological guidance, the deployment of our versatile organisation and mobilisation skills for a resounding Zanu PF victory. Let us scale up the preparations to register victories, polling station by polling station; ward by ward; and constituency by constituency; right up to the Presidential level. Our present two thirds majority in Parliament must now extend to the Local Authority and Presidential Elections. United and focused in our resolve, Zanu PF is unstoppable.”

President Mnangagwa said in close collaboration with other leagues of the party, the Veterans League should sharpen mobilisation strategies to ensure that the party’s grassroots are better equipped to preserve the country’s independence, democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity. “After all, it is you, our War Veterans, who have always provided leadership and responded decisively during the various periods of asymmetrical socio-economic and political attacks by our erstwhile detractors.

“You remain the source of inspiration that must help propel our party and give confidence to all our people to drive the national development agenda forward towards Vision 2030. Let us, therefore, never abdicate the responsibility to inculcate patriotism, loyalty, hard honest work, sacrifice and self-belief among the younger generation,” he said.

“At both the Party and Government level, we continue to treasure your contribution to our country’s political sphere and quest to realise sustainable socio-economic development.”

While acknowledging the resilience of the War Veterans in the face of various hardships, President Mnangagwa said several interventions were being pursued by the government to improve their welfare.

He said in line with Section 23 of the Constitution, plans were in place to ensure that War Veterans had access to quality and affordable services as well as being afforded due respect, dignity, and recognition.

“To date, the now functional Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Board is setting up productive ventures across various sectors of the economy. These will not only improve the welfare of our veterans, but also that of their families and dependents.

“Additionally, my government is availing seed capital to capacitate the Veterans Investment Corporation Holding Company. The Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Board is called upon to work closely with the League for the increased participation of veterans in the mainstream economy. All sectors are open for you to establish viable and profitable business enterprises,” he said.

The conference is running under the theme; “Force of the Past, Power of the Present, and Inspiration of the Future.”
