Motorists urged to increase safety consciousness

Harare (New Ziana) –The Zimbabwe Republic Police on Monday urged motorists to increase safety consciousness on the roads as fatal accidents, mainly due to human error, keep occurring.

The police made the call as they revealed the names of victims of a road traffic accident which occurred on Saturday at the 2-kilometre peg along the Lion’s Den-Mhangura Road near Chinhoyi in Mashonaland West province.

Four people died while 10 others were injured in the accident.

“Three of the four victims have been identified by their relatives as Mark Mumba (34) of Finland, Lion’s Den; Spencer Banda (23) of D-Troop, Chikuti, Lion’s Den and Clive Wilo (25) of Chikuti compound. The other victim who is a male is yet to be identified,” police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

Nyathi urged motorists to avoid speeding and carrying loads which are beyond the capacity of specific type vehicles.
