Woman caught with drugs at Victoria Falls Airport

Harare (New Ziana) –Police in Victoria Falls at the weekend arrested a 43-year-old foreign woman for possessing illegal drugs which she intended to smuggle to India.

Acting on a tip off, Police officers from the Criminal Investigations Department drugs and narcotics section on Saturday arrested Shaik Zeenat Khatoon Rafiq (43), at the Victoria Falls International Airport for unlawful possession of 9.2 kg of heroin.

“On 1st October 2022, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Victoria Falls, received information that the suspect was in possession of Heroin which she intended to smuggle to India. The detectives reacted to the tip-off and tracked the suspect to Victoria Falls International Airport,” national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

“The suspect, who intended to board an Ethiopian Airline to Addis Ababa en-route to India, was found with 9.2 kg of Heroine stuffed in the lining of her travelling bag at the airport’s scanning point.”

In another case recorded on the same day, Nyathi said Beitbridge CID drugs and narcotics arrested a cross-border transporter, Obvious Moyo (34) in connection with unlawful possession of 50 X 100 ml of Benylin cough syrup.

“The cough syrup was found hidden underneath other luggage in a Toyota Hilux vehicle with foreign number plates. Investigations by the Police indicated that the suspect is being used by drug peddlers to transport contraband from South Africa into the country.”

Nyathi applauded the public for supplying useful information to the Police.

“Above all, the police warns cross border transporters who are being used to transport illegal drugs from other countries that they risk being arrested and the law will take its course,” he said.
