A 35-year-old police officer was arrested last Sunday for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman who also has a hearing and speech impairment.
According to a police memorandum, seen by this publication, Constable Misheck Mashoko, who is stationed at Mt Darwin Magistrate’s Court Police Post was apprehended by the victim’s relatives just after the act.
The victim is aged 34 and comes from Nhanga Village, under Chief Nyamaropa in Madziwa.
On October 30, 2022 at around 3pm, a 19-year-old niece to the victim and from Nhanga Village, Chief Nyamaropa, Madziwa, left the homestead proceeding to the borehole to fetch water.
They left the victim at the homestead together with Nyarai Dhibi 25, who is the victim’s sister-in-law, who was asleep in her bedroom.
When the niece returned from the borehole 30 minutes later, they met Dhibi, who asked them if they knew about the victim’s whereabouts.
The two told Dhibi that they had left her at home when they went to the borehole.
A seven-year-old-boy, who is their neighbour, arrived while the three were busy trying to establish the victim’s whereabouts.
The boy then told them that he had seen the victim following a man, who was wearing black clothes heading to the west side of the homestead.
The three followed shoe prints and after travelling for about 700 metres, they heard a man’s voice groaning in ecstasy in a Blair toilet at a Johanne Masowe shrine.
They rushed to the toilet and met Constable Mashoko leaving the toilet with his trousers lowered to knee level. They immediately entered into the toilet and saw the victim putting on her pants. Her blouse was not properly worn.
The three then apprehended Mashoko with help from other villagers and took him to ZRP Madziwa.
A report was made at ZRP Madziwa and police attended the scene.
The victim was taken to Bindura Hospital for medical examination and compilation of a psychiatrist report.
