POLICE have arrested Mlungisi Vundla (49) from Esigodini who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend,
Sithokozile Sibanda (39), after an altercation over a $5 she received from her former boyfriend,
police have confirmed.
Matabeleland South Acting Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo, said an
altercation occurred after Vundla learnt that his girlfriend had received $5 from her former lover to
cover her transport fares to visit her children, who lived in Lupane.
Allegations are that Mlungisi Vundla has fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Sithokozile Sibanda, in
Esigodini after she received a five dollars from her former boyfriend, which was meant to be her bus
fare to travel to Lupane to see her children. This did not go down well with Vundla, who quarreled
with his girlfriend over the issue.
He picked a sharp object and allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, and kept the deceased body in his
premises and attempted to commit suicide but later sought treatment from a neighbour before
being rushed to United Bulawayo Hospital,” said Assistant Inspector Moyo.
He said Vundla was now in custody while investigations were being carried out.
In another case, a 34-year-old man, Paddington Mandipe, of Siyoka Village was allegedly stabbed to
death by Shepherd Gomba (24), employed as a herdboy at Tshabezi after the two had a
misunderstanding over a beer.
The now deceased, Paddington picked up beer the accused intended to drink and he smashed it.
They wrangled over the issue and Gomba produced an Okapi knife, with which he stabbed Mandipe
on the chest. Mandipe died the following morning, leading to the arrest of the accused by the West
Nicholson police,” said the police spokesperson.
