NetOne donates to people living with albinism
GWERU – Over 100 people living with albinism had all the reasons to smile after receiving a donation
of sun creams, lip balms and sun hats from local telecommunications service player, NetOne.
NetOne pledged to make similar donations across the country as part of its mandate of leaving no
place and no one behind in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS 1).
In a speech read on his behalf by Head Marketing and Public Relations, Roselyn Chisveto at the
NetOne Albinism Fun and Talent Day 2022, the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engineer
Raphael Mushanawani said their corporate and social responsibility strategy hinges around uplifting
previously marginalised communities including the Albinism community.
“The organisation’s thrust is to put an end to such a ‘social-ill’ as we believe ‘Albinism is not a curse’,
it is just a different skin pigment. Living with Albinism does not disqualify one from enjoying the
privileges that are inscribed as human rights,” he said.
As part of creating a strong CSR brand, NetOne, this year has carried out a number of awareness
initiatives and events around the country including the commemoration of the International
Albinism Awareness Day 2022 (Masvingo, Manicaland, Bulawayo, Mash-West), Mr & Miss Albinism
2022 (Harare) and Clean-Up Campaign (Mash-West).
NetOne commemorated the Albinism Fun and Talent Day, together with all Albinism Charity
Foundations and Organisations’ in Zimbabwe.
The day was celebrated under the theme: “#UnitedInMakingOurVoiceHeard and #Inclusion4equility”
as prescribed by the International Albinism Association.
NetOne’s awareness campaigns are also part of the national mantra by the President Emmerson
Mnangagwa of ‘Leaving No One or Place Behind, as a way to fight stigma and societal stereotypes.
Albinism is a rare condition, a genetically inherited difference that occurs at birth, it is a non-
contagious and is caused by lack of pigmentation in the skin, hair and eyes causing lack of defense to
sunlight and bright light- therefore it is ‘Not A Curse.’
