Zaka lightning strike kills two children

TWO pupils from Dahwa Primary School in Zaka, died when they were struck
by lightning while on their way home from school last week.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa,
confirmed the incident and said a lightning bolt struck the two Grade V (5)
pupils, Ayanda Chavani of Chavani Village, Chief Bota, and Omusi Chitikai of
Nyamunda Village, Zaka, after they had sought refuge under a tree.
“On 8 November around 2.30pm two 11-year-old pupils of Dahwa Primary
School, Chief Bota, Zaka were going home from school when it started raining.
They sought refuge under a tree. A lightning bolt struck the two and they died
on the spot.
“The headmaster rushed them to Chivamba Clinic, where they were confirmed
dead,” he said.
Zaka Magistrate, Tariro Mudzingo, waived the post mortem.
Inspector Dhewa encouraged teachers to ensure that learners stayed indoors at
school when it starts raining, while they liaised with the parents.
