MUTARE- The Eastern Highlands is marking the birth of a provincial volleyball league
when (MANVA) hosts an open tournament this weekend
in Mutare.
The overwhelming response from clubs across the province underlines how much the
stakeholders are eager to grow the sport.
Fourteen clubs have confirmed participation at this fiesta set for this weekend.
MANVA secretary general Dominic Machine said all was set for the tournament.
“All is set for the jamboree and we are expecting a blast as we have teams from all over the
province. As of date Green Fuel, Jersey Eagle, Chipinge Eagle, Rusape Volleyball Academy,
Rusape Hardhitters, Nyanga Allied Timbers VC, Mutare Chiefs, Manica Thunder(ZRP
Mutare), Africa University, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, Mutare
Polytechnical College, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services(Mutare) and
Buffaloes(ZNA Mutare) have registered for the tournament,” said Machine.
Machine said the hosting of the tournament was driven by the desire to keep the game rolling
in the province with the hopes of giving rise to a provincial league.
“The tournament has been driven by our desire to keep the ball flying in Manicaland
province. We did our homework and researched the way forward in bringing teams across the
province together. The tournament will bring them together as we discuss the modalities in
bringing forth a provincial volleyball league in 2023,” he said.
The tournament will mark the introduction of a provincial volleyball league in 2023.
