GWERU – Government is working with development partners to come up with business ideas and
strategies to lure investors to the Midlands province.
The government has since engaged a local company which will come up with an investment atlas to
market Midlands as an investment of choice in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS 1).
Speaking at the Midlands Special Provincial Development Committee meeting at the Midlands State
University recently, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Midlands Province
Senator Larry Mavima said government has created an environment where it can work with
development partners to come up with business ideas and strategies in relation to viable projects
and implementation of NDS 1.
He said the government is working with a private company that will provide an investment atlas that
should lure potential investors wishing to invest in the Midlands province.
''The investment atlas will not only be offered to outside investors but also local potential investors
from within the Midlands Province,'' said Senator Mavima.
Meanwhile, District Development Coordinators (DDCs) from Gweru, Gokwe, Kwekwe, Chirumhanzu,
Shurugwi and Mberengwa who were also present at the meeting appreciated government for
coming up with devolution programme which has transformed the lives of many people in their
respective districts.
In an interview, DDC for Gokwe South Netsai Mushauri said: “I would want to appreciate the
platform that the minister has set for us as DDCs and from all that the minister said, we are going to
coordinate all government activities and programmes so that we achieve Vision 2030.''
DDC for Kwekwe Fortune Mupungu said: “ The minister has advised us to be transparent and
accountable and we will ensure that we engage all stakeholders be it miners, farmers, local
authorities and general people from the communities so that they know what the government is
doing for them.
''We are going to ensure the principle of the whole of government approach as utilized in districts.
Therefore, its our pledge as DDCs as we are in cognizant with the fact that the Minister of State
directs all government operations in the province,'' said Mupungu.
