A 22-year-old man from Mbire man appeared before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court last
Tuesday facing two counts of raping a 13-year-old relative from Mburuma village in the
same district.
Edward Katsvairo for the State told court that on an unknown date the 13-year- old visited
Martin Takaenzana, who is related to him at his house. She was accompanied by her 12-year-
old sister.
Takaenzana is said to have instructed the two juveniles to follow him to the fields where he
was going to get them some watermelons.
Whilst at the fields, the accused person firstly gave the 12-year-old the watermelon and
ordered her to stay behind, eating the melon.
Together with the 13-year-old, Takaenzana, headed for the centre of the field and raped the
juvenile. After he was finished with her, Takaenzana gave her a watermelon.
He allegedly threatened to kill the complainant if she revealed the rape incident to anyone.
The two juveniles kept the incident to themselves.
On the second count, Takaenzana raped the complainant on another unknown date to the
court, after she had paid him a visit at his house.
Allegations are that on her way back from Takaenzana’s homestead, Takaenzana blocked her
way and ordered her to follow him to the bush. The girl complied.
Takaenzana threatened the girl with a knife, ordering her to lie down. He raped her once.
Takaenzana further warned and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone of the incidents.
However, the juvenile later told her mother what happened on the two occasions.
Magistrate Amos Mubobo remanded the case to 14 December.
