POLICE have appealed to members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own
hands when they arrest suspected criminals.
The call comes after a 37-year-old man from Budiriro, Hillary Bhenge, was assaulted until he
died last week at Mukaradzi mining site.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha, said Bhenge was assaulted by five
fellow artisanal miners led by one, Greater Chinembiri.
“The deceased person was fatally assaulted by the five men with wooden sticks and fan belts
whilst being accused of stealing an electrical cable,” he said.
Bhenge sustained injuries due to the assault and was found dead near a dumping site.
The case was reported to ZRP Mt Darwin, who attended the scene and arrested the suspects.
Bhenge's body was ferried to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post mortem.
“Instead of taking the law into your hands, please report any criminals and crimes to police for
investigations,” added the police spokesperson.
