SHURUGWI — Mupangayi Secondary School, Shurugwi South, Ward 11 under Chief Nhema, is in need
of financial assistance to repair two classroom blocks which were destroyed by hailstorm recently.
The school is under Tongogara Rural District Council and has 459 learners
Although repairs were done on two blocks, it is the science laboratory that needs urgent attention
and the school is appealing to well wishers to help.
In an interview recently, the school Headmaster, Douglas Nyoni said: “Efforts have been made in
repairing the damaged classroom blocks, but more consented effort is required so that the Lab is not
further damaged during this rainy season which is already upon us.”
The school needs among other things, roofing material, modern science lab equipment as well as
electric components necessary for the restoration of electricity to the block.
“We are failing to raise money as most of the villagers here are subsistence farmers, and we suffered
heavy livestock deaths to January Disease in June this year due to moist conditions during the winter
season, resulting in heavy losses in cow population,” said Sekuru Tadiwa Munofa.
The cattle deaths have also impacted negatively on the summer cropping season as most farmers do
not have draught power. What also baffled the villagers was the alleged failure of vaccines to work
in treating affected animals.
Shurugwi is one of the towns in the country, infamously known for a high number of early chid
marriages and machete wielding gangs.
