CHINHOYI- FOUR players from Chinhoyi City Queens, which is in Northern Region
Division 1, have been selected for trials to Botswana.
Dorothy Mutukura, aged 18 started playing when she was in Grade V, she attended Mtunzi
Secondary School, where her talent was groomed.
“I started playing when I was still in primary and then at secondary school. I was selected to
play for Chinhoyi City Queens Football Club when I was in Form III but I turned down the
offer. They later approached me when I was in Form IV saying that they were going to pay
my school fees while I was learning at the Chinhoyi 2 High School, but I was already a
registered candidate at Mtunzi,” Mutukura said.
Dorothy Mutukura and the other three, Sasha…., Modesta Mupambwa and Violet Makaza
are supposed to go to Harare to the School of Excellence for the trials that are scheduled for
14 December this year.
“If my colleagues and I make it through the trials, we are going to be playing under the
Northern Region Club, which is going to Botswana on 15 April next year. During this season
I played five games. I was in the starting line-up and with the support from our couch, Zaka,
everything seems brighter,” she said.
In an interview with Telesport, Mutukura said that Chinhoyi City Queens Club was still a
small club, which does not have sponsorship, something which makes it hard for the club to
meet some of the players’ needs.
“At our club, some of the members are married and we are not paid. So, if there comes an
opportunity of playing at some other paying clubs, the team also benefits because of the
transfer fees.”
Chinhoyi City Queens manager said that the club started in 2019 and was like any of the
other teams affected by Covid-19. Despite all that, he believes the team is doing very well.
