Police still to identify nationality of trafficked foreigners
Harare (New Ziana)-Investigations to ascertain the nationalities and identity of four foreign men who were found dead along the Harare- Nyamapanda highway last month are still ongoing, the police said on Wednesday.
Four men were found dead on November 22 in a bushy area with suspicions that they were foreigners being trafficked to another country.
The victims were suspected to have suffocated in the container they were travelling in, and their bodies were dumped in the bushes.
Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told New Ziana that they were still conducting investigations into the matter.
“There were documents found on them and contact details which show that they are foreign nationals. The documents indicate that they were communicating with contacts in other foreign countries, those are the details we are tracing,” he said.
“We are still probing.”
The ZRP has since engaged Interpol for assistance in identifying the victims.
Zimbabwe is host to hundreds of refugees from mostly the Great Lakes region while some from countries as far as Somalia have been arrested while trying to pass through the country enroute to South Africa.
