Rains disrupts Shangano Festival.


Hwange continues to experience have downpours which have brought relief to residents and
wildlife alike but they have also caused extensive damage to buildings and road
Last weekend, during the annual Shangao Cultural Festival, artists had to run for cover when
a hailstorm and a heavy downpour disrupted the event.
The 16th edition of the Shangano Cultural arts festival attracted a number of artists from
Nkayi, Victoria Falls, Lupane and Hwange.
The second day of the four day long festival was disrupted by the heavy downpour forcing
artists to cling on to the mounted tent to prevent it from being blown away.
Invited guest was stuck under the tent while Member of Parliament for Hwange Central
Constituency Daniel Molokele had to rush to his car for safety.
The meteorological department said Zimbabwe’s summer rainfall season started early this
month and weather experts have predicted a normal to above normal 2022/2023 season
“Most places across the country reported thunderstorms, most stations measured trace
amounts of rainfall.” read meteorological department statement.
However, Shangano arts festival is a music cultural festival which was promoted by
numerous funders such as Centre for Natural Resources Governance (CNRG), Hwange
Youth Empowerment Initiative was mainly focusing on empowering artist.
The four-day festival which took place in Hwange is an annual artistic showcase.The fete was
officially launched at Lwendulu grounds.
