BULAWAYO will host the country’s biggest handball tournament – the end-of-the-year Club
Championship from December 16-18 at United College of Education.
Zimbabwe Handball Federation technical director Farai Gwisai said the country’s top 10 male and 10
female clubs from different regions are set to battle it out in this tournament, organised by ZHF.
Gwisai said they are expecting the top two teams from the five regions – southern, northern, central,
Harare and Bulawayo metropolitan provinces.
“From Harare metropolitan we have put in four teams because of the level which is a bit higher than
others. So, ideally it is the top level of the competition where we see our best and top. And the top
teams – male and female will qualify for regional championship,” he said.
ZHF technical director said Zimbabwe is favourite to host the regional competition.
“At the moment, Zimbabwe is favourite to host the regional championship but it has not been
finalised,” said Gwisai.
He said the three-day tournament will also be used by the ZHF as a selection event for national team
players who will take part in a number of regional and international events.
Meanwhile, Team Zimbabwe qualified for the Continental Stage on the road to World Youth and
Junior Championship after making history at the International Handball Federation Trophy Zone 6
Games held on 17-23 October in Harare.
Overally, Zimbabwe finished first in the Juniors (U20) and second in the Youth (U18) tournament.
