GWERU — Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV, (ZNNP+), Midlands Province
Chapter is aims to end HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria by promoting community health programme in
line with the Global Fund Strategy.
The new GFS prioritises the development and integration of effective community systems for the
elimination of diseases and to prepare for and respond to new pandemics such as Coronavirus and
Monkey Pox.
To achieve this, ZNNP+ has been teaching HIV positive members to take their medication correctly.
Laiza Zvakurumbira, Midlands Province chairperson of People Living with HIV said: “The first thing
about adherence is that a person must not be in denial. They must take their medication properly,
know their ART and stick to their set timetables.
“A good nutrition is also vital. If one has poor adherence, their viral load will go up and that is not
wise as they will be forced to go on to second or even third line treatment drugs.”
ZNNP+ has been involved in various initiatives that include disseminating approved healthy living
guidelines.
It also urged people living with HIV to support and encourage each other, engage in safe sex and not
to wilfully transmit the virus to unsuspecting individuals, avoid self-stigmatisation through freely
disclosing their status, join support groups and engage in sporting activities that boost their immune
systems.
The New Global Fund Strategy recently held virtually from Geneva identified and discussed how to
integrate community and national health systems in practice.
ZNNP+ recently held a candle light dinner memorial day in honour of people who have died from
and or have been affected by HIV and Aids.
