MAKONDE – THE Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services,
Kindness Paradza, who is also the Member of Parliament for Makonde brought tears of joy to
the elderly after he distributed maize meal at Nyamasanga Secondary School last week.
The elderly were among the people, who were gathered at Nyamasanga Secondary School to
commemorate the National Tree Planting Day, where the Minister of State for Provincial
Affairs and Devolution Honourable Mary Chikoka-Mliswa was the guest of honour.
Paradza started distributing the maize soon after the main event of the day. He was targeting
the elderly, who were present on the day.
“This area is a drought-prone, so there are food shortages. I have brought some maize meal
from the Government – the Ministry of Social Welfare. The people, who have been afforded
farms should utilise their lands for production,” said Paradza.
The elderly, who were given maize meal, were very happy, saying that they did not expect
such surprise. They said it was an honour.
Mary Mudzengerere, an eldery woman, praised the Deputy Minister a lot, after receiving her
share of the maize meal.
“Today, I am so happy with such an activity because I did not even have any maize meal and
the miller does not work during the weekend, meaning that I was supposed to wait for the
whole weekend without maize meal,” Mudzengerere said.
Agness Ngwenya, another elderly person, said that it was important for the Government to
remember them as she was no longer able to afford some of the basics for herself.
“I did not want to come, but I am very thankful because I am going back home with a parcel.
It is very amazing to be given something when you do not even expect it like what the MP
has done to us today. This really means a lot,” said Ngwenya.
MP Paradza also encouraged people to register to vote, while urging those without identity
documents to go and get them as the exercise was free.
