New born survives dumping

POLICE in Mukumbura have arrested a 28-year-old woman from Chisanhu Village
after she allegedly concealed a birth and dumped the baby in a toilet pit.
According to police, the woman delivered a baby girl around dusk on New Year’s
Day and threw it into her neighbour’s toilet.
At around 10am, Jeremia Tomu, the neighbour reportedly proceeded to his toilet after
a call of nature.
While inside, he heard a baby crying and discovered that there was a baby in the toilet
He immediately alerted other villagers who teamed up to retrieve the baby.
They immediately reported the matter to ZRP Mukumbura, who attended the scene.
The woman confessed after interviews, leading to her arrest.
She admitted that she had delivered the baby early in the morning that day.
Police referred her and the baby to Mukumbura Clinic where it was confirmed that the
baby was in a stable condition.
The woman is facing charges of attempted infanticide.
