New Covid-19 cases recorded

CHINHOYI – MASHONALAND West Province recorded 13 new Covid-19 cases during the
first week of January 2023 at a time the country is witnessing an upsurge in Covid-19 cases.
The Mashonaland West Provincial Health Officer, Dr George Kambondo, in an interview
however, said that there were no deaths during this period.
“The total number of new cases is 13 and no deaths have been recorded. The cumulative cases
are now 31 847.
“There were a total of 143 tests done and 13 positive cases, the positivity rate is at 9.1 percent.
There are 31 067 recoveries and the provincial recovery rate is 97.5 percent and 23 active cases,”
said Dr Kambondo.
Chegutu District had 13 tests done and recorded two new Covid-19 cases and no deaths.
The cumulative cases in the district are now 5 032 and the positivity rate is at 15.4 percent.
“Hurungwe had 12 tests done, but registered one new case and no deaths. The cumulative cases
are 10 127 and its positivity rate is at 8.3 percent.
“Kariba had no tests done, had no new cases and no death has been recorded, with a total of 2
932 cumulative cases.”
He said that, by January 6, one case was admitted in the Covid- 19 Isolation and Treatment
Centre in Mashonaland West Province.
On vaccines, the provincial coverage for the first dose is 53.4 percent with 701 317 people
having received the vaccine, for the second dose at 37.1percent with 488 612 people having
received the jab. The coverage for the third dose stands at 9.2 percent with 120 430 getting the
vaccine.

“The coverage for Chegutu for the first dose is 52.1 percent, the second dose is at 38.8 percent
and the third dose is at 10.8 percent. The total number of people who received the first dose to
date is 125 333; the second dose is 93 376 and the third dose is 25 967.”
Vaccine coverage in Hurungwe for the first dose is at 56.0 percent. For the second dose it is 37.1
percent and the third dose is 9.7 percent.
The total number of people who received the first dose to date in Hurungwe is 159 143, the
second dose is 105 923 and the third dose is 25 967.
In Kariba, the vaccine coverage for the first dose is at 88.1percent. The second dose is at 74.5
percent and for the third dose is 36.7 percent. The total number of people who received the first
dose to date is 48 843, the second dose is 41 316 and the third dose is 20 326.
