Notorious Masvingo armed robber nabbed
POLICE in Masvingo have arrested Tafadzwa Kanengoni (39), who had been involved in a spate of
robberies in the city.
Kanengoni of Tembure Street, Mucheke D suburb, was on the polices wanted list after he shot dead 41-
year-old Michael Munhungowarwa of Kaguvi Street, Mucheke B, last week.
Masvingo Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said Kanengoni demanded money from
Munhungowarwa, who with his wife Martha Taguta (26), was packing up groceries at his tuckshop
around 9 pm on Saturday, January 7.
Munhungowarwa wrestled Kanengoni before he was shot once in the chest. Kanengoni picked up the
Rands that had scattered on the ground and walked away from the scene.
The police had been carrying out investigations and caught up with Kanengoni in Kandodo Township in
Zvishavane on January 11 and found a firearm amongst the recoveries.
“He is linked to four cases, which are: unlawful entry in the Central Business District where he got away
with a firearm, clothing, cellphones and memory sticks; robbery in Target kopje where he stole US$500
and undergarments; and the recent robbery and murder of Munhungowarwa.
Kanengoni was released from jail under the Presidential Amnesty in November last year.
Insp Dhewa assured the Masvingo residents that the police would continue to carry out their duties of
investigating crimes.
As police, we shall continue to execute our constitutional mandate of detecting and investigating
crimes. Our people should be reassured. To those who want to live on the proceeds of crime be warned
that Masvingo is not a safe haven for criminal activities, he said.
