14 new Covid-19 cases, one death


CHINHOYI – MASHONALAND West Province recorded one death and 14 new Covid –19
cases during the second week of January, one case more than the previous week.
The Provincial Health Officer, Dr George Kambondo, said in an interview, that the number of
Covid-19 cases did not increase during the week beginning 3-10 January, 2023.
“Generally the overall number of provincial cases did not increase during the week under review.
Fourteen new cases were reported this week with Chegutu two, Hurungwe two, Makonde one,
Sanyati six and Zvimba three as compared to 13 new cases in the previous week. One death was
reported this week.”
As of 10 January, 2023, the provincial cumulative number of Covid-19 cases stood at 31 861
with 31 098 recoveries and 697 deaths. The recovery rate is still at 97.7 percent with 20 active
cases recorded.
Dr Kambondo said that the vaccines administered during the week under review decreased
compared to vaccines administered during the week beginning 29 December 2022 to 3 January
2023 per district.
The total number of people that received the first, second and third doses of Covid -19 vaccines
during the week under review decreased to 1710 from 2 675 the previous week.
Dr Kambondo said implementation of the accelerated Provincial Covid – 19 vaccination was
ongoing, while support and supervision for Covid- 19 was still taking place.
The action being taken in the province in the fight against the pandemic include engaging
partners and stakeholders for support, with demand-creation services still being undertaken.
